This medication is used to alleviate pain and muscle stiffness caused by musculoskeletal disorders. It is particularly effective for painful muscle spasms occurring in conditions such as shoulder impingement syndrome, periartritis of the shoulder joint, and low back pain. It also aids in the improvement of spastic paralysis symptoms caused by neurological diseases. This includes muscle stiffness due to various neurological problems such as cerebrovascular disorders, spinal cord injuries, and cerebral palsy. This medicine contributes to improving patients' daily lives and movements by reducing this pain and stiffness. Therefore, it is used to relieve muscle stiffness and associated pain.

How to take

Adult dose

Administer orally as ephedrine hydrochloride: 50mg per dose, 3 times a day after meals. Dosage may be adjusted appropriately based on age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. First, individuals who have had allergic reactions to this medication should not take it. Second, those with myasthenia gravis, a condition characterized by muscle weakness, should also refrain from taking this medication. Third, as this medication contains lactose, those with genetic problems that prevent them from digesting lactose should avoid it. Some patients should take caution when using this medication. Individuals with a history of allergies or poor liver function should be careful when taking this medication. Regular monitoring is necessary as liver function may deteriorate. This medication can rarely cause serious side effects. For instance, symptoms such as shock, liver dysfunction, kidney dysfunction, and anemia may occur; hence, if any unusual symptoms arise, it is essential to discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Skin rashes, itching, insomnia, drowsiness, headaches, nausea, abdominal pain may also occur, and symptoms should be closely monitored. Particularly, if symptoms of severe skin diseases such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome appear, immediate cessation of the medication and medical treatment is necessary. During treatment with this medication, feelings of weakness, unsteadiness, or drowsiness may occur, so when these symptoms arise, it is advisable to reduce the dose or discontinue use. Furthermore, due to drowsiness or reduced concentration, it is recommended to avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery. Care should be taken when using other muscle relaxants concurrently as this may result in abnormal eye movements. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully consider the risks and benefits of taking this medication, and if breastfeeding, it is preferable to avoid taking it or to discontinue breastfeeding if possible. The safety for pediatric use has not been sufficiently established, so it should be used cautiously in children. For elderly patients, special caution is necessary as physical functions may be diminished; hence, dosage adjustments may be required.
