This medication is used to improve symptoms caused by vascular atherosclerosis in adult patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or peripheral arterial disease. It is also effective in reducing the risk of cardiovascular abnormalities in patients with acute coronary syndrome, particularly those with unstable angina or non-Q-wave myocardial infarction. Patients who have undergone medical treatment, coronary intervention, and coronary artery bypass graft surgery are also included. Furthermore, it helps reduce the risk of stroke and thromboembolism in patients with atrial fibrillation who have vascular risk factors and for whom vitamin K antagonists are not appropriate. Thus, this medication is used in various cardiovascular risk situations to improve thrombus formation and atherosclerotic symptoms.

Precautions

This medication helps prevent platelets in the blood from clumping together to facilitate proper blood flow. People genetically deficient in certain enzymes may experience reduced effectiveness of this medication; in such cases, a doctor may consider alternative treatments. Co-administration with medications that increase the enzyme that activates this drug may increase the risk of bleeding, so concurrent use is not recommended. Patients allergic to this drug or its ingredients, those with active bleeding, severely impaired liver function, nursing women, and those intolerant to lactose should not take this medication. Patients at higher risk of bleeding or those scheduled for surgery need to be particularly careful when taking this medication, and should immediately inform a hospital if bleeding symptoms occur. Taking this medication along with other antiplatelet drugs or medications that affect blood coagulation may further increase the risk of bleeding, thus consultation with a physician is necessary. During the course of treatment with this medication, gastrointestinal bleeding, skin rashes, and hematological symptoms may occur; if any unusual symptoms arise, the physician should be informed immediately. Pregnant or nursing women should consult a doctor before taking this medication and, while breastfeeding, make a decision regarding discontinuation based on the potential effects on the infant. Elderly patients or those with impaired kidney or liver function may have an increased risk of bleeding when taking this medication, hence it should be taken cautiously according to a doctor's instructions. In case of overdose, bleeding may worsen, so the medication should be taken at the prescribed dosages, and if an overdose occurs, the patient should visit the hospital immediately. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been adequately established, hence consultation with a physician is necessary prior to administering it to minors. During the treatment with this medication, careful monitoring for signs of bleeding or adverse reactions is required, and when starting a new medication or undergoing surgery, the physician should be informed that this medication is being taken.
