Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (erosive esophagitis, etc.) and treatment of Helicobacter pylori positive peptic ulcers, with alleviation of gastrointestinal symptoms related to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
This medication is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, particularly erosive esophagitis, and for long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in patients with esophagitis. It also helps to relieve symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis. It is often used in combination with antibiotics for the treatment of peptic ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. It is effective for alleviating upper gastrointestinal symptoms related to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, treatment of gastric ulcers, and prevention of ulcers, and is also used in the management of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It aids in maintaining after the prevention of rebleeding due to gastric or duodenal ulcers. Thus, it is used for various gastrointestinal disorders and symptom improvement.
This medication should be swallowed whole with liquids such as water and should not be chewed or crushed. 1) Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. If symptoms persist, an additional 4 weeks may be prescribed. - Maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence of esophagitis: 20 mg once daily. - Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease symptoms without esophagitis: once daily,
Adolescents 12 years and older - Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks. If symptoms persist, an additional 4 weeks may be prescribed. -
This medication should not be used in patients who are hypersensitive to this drug, its components, or benzimidazole derivatives. Additionally, patients allergic to amoxicillin or clarithromycin should not receive this medication when used in combination for Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy. Patients taking specific drugs such as terfenadine, cisapride, pimozide, or astemizole, or patients on atazanavir, nelfinavir, or rilpivirine should also refrain from using this medication. Women who are breastfeeding should avoid taking this drug. This medication may lead to various adverse reactions, so if symptoms such as headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, skin rash, muscle pain, blood abnormalities, or changes in mental state occur, it is crucial to consult a doctor immediately. Regular check-ups are necessary for long-term use, especially if taken for more than a year, and any changes in symptoms should be discussed with healthcare providers. Since this medication inhibits gastric acid secretion, it may increase bacterial growth in the gastrointestinal tract, so it is important to inform healthcare providers if diarrhea persists or worsens. Patients with osteoporosis or those at high risk of fractures should carefully monitor bone health during prolonged use. This medication is not suitable for patients with specific genetic metabolic abnormalities, so those with fructose intolerance or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take it. Moreover, potential interactions may occur with other medications taken alongside this one; therefore, it is imperative to inform doctors or pharmacists of any medications being used. Data on the safety of this drug during pregnancy is limited, so it should be administered with caution during pregnancy, in consultation with healthcare providers. There is no specific antidote for overdose, so appropriate treatment should be administered based on symptoms, and it is safest to keep it out of the reach of children.
Urticaria, angioedema, anaphylaxis, shock, hypomagnesemia, mental confusion, taste disorder, bronchospasm, pancreatitis, hepatitis, jaundice, liver failure, encephalopathy, erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis (Lyell syndrome), acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS syndrome), interstitial nephritis, acute generalized skin adverse reactions, rhabdomyolysis.
