This medication is used for patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by monotherapy with amlodipine or valsartan alone. The two components work together to effectively lower blood pressure and improve hypertension.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended dose for this medication is one tablet taken once daily, with water and irrespective of meals. It is advisable to take it at the same time every day (e.g., in the morning). 5/80 mg: Administered to patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy of amlodipine 5 mg or valsartan 80 mg. 5/160 mg: Administered to patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy of amlodipine 5 mg or valsartan 160 mg.

Child dose

Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients under 18 years have not been established; thus, administration of this medication is not recommended.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Patients with an allergy to the active ingredients or similar components, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, nursing mothers, or individuals with severe kidney or liver disease should not take this medication. Patients with sodium or fluid depletion may experience hypotension; therefore, their condition should be stabilized prior to use, and blood pressure should be closely monitored after initiation. Patients with elevated potassium levels should be cautious when taking this medication with other drugs that can increase potassium, and regular checks of blood potassium levels are necessary. Patients with renal artery issues or those who have recently undergone kidney transplants should carefully monitor kidney function while taking this medication. If symptoms of angioedema occur, this medication should be discontinued immediately and should not be restarted thereafter. Patients with heart failure or those recovering from myocardial infarction should closely monitor changes in renal function while taking this medication, and special caution is necessary for patients with acute myocardial infarction. Patients with heart valve diseases such as aortic stenosis or mitral stenosis should also use this medication with special care. Combination with other RAAS (Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System) acting medications is not recommended; if combined, blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels should be closely monitored. Dizziness or fatigue may occur during driving or operating machinery, necessitating caution. In cases of overdose, hypotension, increased heart rate, and severe cases may result in shock; immediate medical treatment is required. This medication is not recommended for children, as safety and efficacy have not been adequately established. For elderly patients, the same dosage as for adults may be administered, but careful observation is necessary. It is advisable to have regular liver and kidney function tests during the course of this medication, and to consult medical staff immediately if any abnormal symptoms occur.

Urticaria, angioedema, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in oral/ocular mucous membranes, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, cough accompanied by fever and breathing difficulties, jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes), extreme lethargy, sudden and severe headache, thunderclap headaches, seizures, and confusion.
