This medication is used to treat myocardial ischemia caused by stable angina resulting from hypertension and fixed occlusion of the coronary artery, as well as variant angina due to vascular spasm and vascular contraction. Additionally, it helps to reduce the risk of hospitalization due to angina and the risks associated with coronary artery procedures in patients with confirmed coronary artery disease via recent angiography, provided they have no heart failure or a cardiac output greater than 40%. In summary, this medication is effectively used in the treatment of various forms of angina and hypertension, as well as in the prevention of complications associated with heart diseases.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, those with allergies to this medication or similar drugs, nursing women, patients with severely impaired liver function, those with severe aortic stenosis, and individuals in shock should not take it. Additionally, caution is advised when administering this drug to patients with severe hypotension, severely impaired renal function requiring dialysis, elderly patients, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. Side effects may occur when taking this medication. The most common side effects include facial flushing, fatigue, swelling, palpitations, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea. Rarely, symptoms such as hypotension, neurological abnormalities, erectile dysfunction, skin rash, and liver function abnormalities may arise, so any unusual symptoms should prompt immediate consultation with a doctor. Patients with heart failure or liver impairment should be closely monitored for the benefits and side effects of this drug, as sudden discontinuation may lead to gradual decreases in blood pressure, hence caution is advised when using it alongside other antihypertensive medications. This medication is not known to significantly impair the ability to drive or operate machinery, but caution is advised if drowsiness or dizziness occurs. Additionally, interactions with other medications may occur. Grapefruit juice, in particular, may excessively enhance the effects of this medication, so concurrent use should be avoided. When used with certain antibiotics or immunosuppressants, blood pressure may drop, or drug concentrations may change, so medical advice should be followed. Pregnant or nursing women should avoid using this medication unless absolutely necessary, as its safety has not been sufficiently confirmed; if breastfeeding, it is recommended to discontinue during the course of the medication. In children, it's recommended for use only in those aged 6 years and older, as efficacy and safety have not been established in children under 6. In cases of overdose, hypotension or tachycardia may occur, and in severe cases, shock may ensue, necessitating immediate emergency treatment. This medication is not removed by hemodialysis, so professional treatment is required in overdose situations. While taking this medication, regular consultations with a physician are recommended, and any changes in adverse reactions or symptoms should be closely monitored.
