Thioctic acid can help facilitate energy metabolism during intense physical labor, aiding in the maintenance of bodily functions. It is also used in the treatment of subacute necrotizing encephalomyelitis, such as Leigh syndrome, and is applicable for toxic inner ear hearing loss caused by drugs like streptomycin or kanamycin, as well as occupational noise-induced inner ear hearing loss. However, if no effect is observed after approximately one month of use, it is advisable not to continue treatment. Thus, thioctic acid is effectively used in the treatment of certain neurological and auditory disorders.
