Improvement of tear production reduced by ocular inflammation associated with keratoconjunctivitis sicca
This medication helps alleviate symptoms by increasing tear production in patients with suppressed tear production due to inflammation associated with dry eye syndrome.
Instill 1 drop of this medicine into each eye twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart. If this medicine is used at the same time as artificial tears, administer them 15 minutes apart. Discard any remaining solution and the container after use.
Caution is required for patients with a history of herpetic keratitis as sufficient studies have not been conducted. The effect of increased tear production was not observed in patients using topical anti-inflammatory medications or tear plugs. Patients with active eye infections or hypersensitivity to the components of this medication should not use it. The most commonly observed side effect of this medication is a burning sensation in the eyes; some patients may experience conjunctival hyperemia, discharge, eye pain or foreign body sensation, and itching. Rarely, occurrences of eye swelling, severe allergic reactions, and urticaria have been reported, thus any unusual symptoms should be promptly discussed with a healthcare professional. This medication contains phosphate, and there have been rare reports of corneal calcification in patients with severe corneal damage. This product is for ophthalmic use only and care should be taken to avoid direct contact of the tip of the container with the eye. Pregnant or nursing women should use this medication with caution, especially during early pregnancy, only when necessary. The safety and efficacy in children under 16 years have not been established; hence, its use is not recommended. The product should be used immediately after opening, and any remaining solution and the container should be discarded. Contact lenses should be removed before use and can be reinserted after waiting 15 minutes. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should be carefully monitored for potential side effects even during long-term use.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
