Treatment for (hypertension, diabetic nephropathy) improvement and (myocardial infarction, stroke, etc.) risk reduction
This medication combines two drugs, Irbesartan and Atorvastatin, to control blood pressure and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Irbesartan is primarily used in patients with essential hypertension and renal disease in patients with type 2 diabetes. Atorvastatin reduces the risk in patients with risk factors associated with coronary heart disease such as myocardial infarction, stroke, and angina, and decreases the risk of hospitalization due to congestive heart failure. It is also effective in treating hyperlipidemia and helps regulate cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood. Therefore, this medication is used to improve cardiovascular health by managing blood pressure and blood lipids.
This medication is prescribed only for adults, and the dosage should be individualized based on the efficacy and tolerability of each component, Irbesartan and Atorvastatin. Irbesartan - Essential Hypertension: 150 mg orally once daily, which can be increased to 300 mg if sufficient effect is not achieved. - Renal disease in patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes: Start with 150 mg once daily and can be increased up to 300 mg.
This medication should not be used during pregnancy. If pregnancy is confirmed, the medication should be stopped immediately as it can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn. It should not be used in patients with impaired liver function or active liver disease, and if signs of liver dysfunction appear, the doctor should be informed immediately. If there are symptoms of myalgia, muscle weakness, or severe myopathy, the patient should stop taking it immediately and seek medical attention. Careful monitoring is important as muscle enzyme levels may become abnormally elevated. As blood pressure may drop too low or symptoms like dizziness and fainting may occur, elderly patients or those struggling to control their blood pressure should start at a low dose and be closely monitored. There is a risk for elevated blood potassium levels, so patients at risk of hyperkalemia should have regular blood tests. When taking with other antihypertensives, diuretics, or potassium supplements, there may be drug interactions, so consult with a doctor or pharmacist. Rarely, allergic reactions, angioedema, or severe skin rashes can occur, so if any of these symptoms arise, the medication should be stopped immediately and medical personnel should be notified. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children, and it should not be used in patients under 18 years of age. Breastfeeding women are advised not to take this medication; if necessary, breastfeeding should be discontinued. In the case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension or heart rhythm abnormalities may occur, so immediate medical assistance should be sought, as there are no specific antidotes, and treatment based on symptoms is necessary.
