This medication is used to improve atherosclerotic symptoms in adult patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or peripheral arterial disease. In adult patients with acute coronary syndrome, it improves symptoms by reducing the risk of death, myocardial infarction, and stroke due to cardiovascular problems. It also helps reduce the risk of stroke and thromboembolism in patients with atrial fibrillation who have vascular risk factors but for whom vitamin K antagonists are not appropriate. It is used to improve symptoms and reduce the risk of complications from various cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

Precautions

This medication is designed to prevent blood clot formation by inhibiting platelet aggregation in the blood. Before taking this medication, if you have a genetically reduced function of the specific enzyme CYP2C19, the effectiveness of this medication may be diminished; therefore, you should consult with your doctor to decide on the appropriate treatment method. Additionally, taking this medication together with drugs that increase the activity of the CYP2C19 enzyme may increase the concentration of the active ingredient of this medication and raise the risk of bleeding, so it is advisable not to use them in combination. Patients who are allergic to this medication or its components, currently have bleeding, have severe liver damage, are breastfeeding women, or have certain genetic diseases such as lactose intolerance should not use this medication. Patients at high risk of bleeding, such as those with bleeding disorders or those taking other medications that may cause bleeding, and patients scheduled for surgery should use this medication with caution, and if any bleeding symptoms occur, they should immediately inform medical personnel. Long-term use of this medication may result in various side effects such as bleeding, gastrointestinal disorders, skin rashes, and reduced blood cell counts; therefore, should any abnormal symptoms appear, you should consult a doctor right away. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult a doctor before taking this medication, as there may be an increased risk of bleeding during delivery. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been fully established, and elderly patients may be at increased risk of bleeding due to decreased bodily functions; therefore, caution is needed when taking this medication. In cases of overdose, the risk of bleeding may increase, and there is no specific antidote, so treatment such as platelet transfusion may be necessary if needed. During treatment with this medication, attention should be paid to interactions with other medications, especially when combined with drugs that may increase the risk of bleeding, it is advisable to consult a doctor. Lastly, this medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers for safety.
