This medication is used for the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers. It also alleviates symptoms of erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease and is effective in long-term maintenance therapy for gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is used in combination with antibiotics for patients with gastrointestinal ulcers associated with Helicobacter pylori infection to enhance treatment efficacy. It also helps patients with Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Overall, it is utilized for the treatment and symptom relief of diseases related to the stomach and esophagus.

How to take

Adult dose

For gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer: typically 10 mg orally once daily, and may be increased to 20 mg once daily depending on symptoms. The duration for gastric ulcer is up to 8 weeks, and for duodenal ulcer is up to 6 weeks. For erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: administer 10 mg or 20 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. Precautions

This medication should not be used by individuals allergic to specific ingredients or benzimidazoles. Additionally, caution is required when using this medication in combination with penicillin and macrolide antibiotics for those with allergies to these drugs. Particularly, individuals taking certain heart-related medications or atazanavir and rilpivirine should not use this medication. It is also safest for pregnant or nursing women to avoid this medication. Caution is advised in patients with impaired liver function, the elderly, or those with a history of drug allergies. If symptoms such as skin rash, hives, or itching occur during the use of this medication, it should be discontinued immediately and a doctor consulted. Regular blood tests are needed as blood tests may show changes in red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelet counts. It is advisable to periodically undergo liver function tests as liver function abnormalities or jaundice symptoms may present. Be alert for any changes in symptoms related to heart problems, blood pressure abnormalities, or gastrointestinal symptoms (abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, etc.). Symptoms of neurological and psychiatric anomalies, such as headaches, insomnia, and dizziness may occur, and any unusual signs should be reported. Various side effects including respiratory symptoms, muscle pain, and skin rash have been reported, so body condition should be well observed. Long-term use may increase the risk of bone fractures, and hypomagnesemia may occur, so magnesium levels should be checked if necessary. This medication reduces gastric acid secretion and may slightly increase the risk of bacterial infection in the gastrointestinal tract; hence, if diarrhea persists, consult a doctor. Caution is advised when driving or operating machinery as drowsiness may occur. It may interact with other medications, so especially when taken together with warfarin, methotrexate, or antibiotics, consult medical personnel. This medication should be swallowed whole in tablet form without chewing or crushing, and kept out of reach of children. It is safest to avoid this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and the elderly should be particularly cautious due to the potential for decreased liver function. There is no specific antidote for overdose, but appropriate treatment should be given according to symptoms. It is essential to consult a doctor for proper measures if any abnormal symptoms appear during the use of this medication.

Hives, severe swelling, tightness in the chest, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, paleness, severe rash with fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in mouth/eye mucosa, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attack, breathing difficulties accompanied by cough and fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), profound lethargy, sudden and severe headaches, thunderclap headache, convulsions, altered consciousness, visual disturbances, paralysis, reduced urine output.
