Improvement of blood pressure control in cases of hypertension inadequately controlled by monotherapy
Patients with hypertension may require additional medication when blood pressure is not adequately controlled by monotherapy. This medication is used for the treatment of patients with hypertension who have difficulty controlling blood pressure with single therapy.
The usual dosage for adults is one tablet containing Losartan Potassium 50 mg / Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily. Exceeding a dose of Losartan Potassium 100 mg / Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg per day is not recommended. For patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by monotherapy with Losartan or Hydrochlorothiazide, treatment may start with Losartan Potassium 50 mg / Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily.
There is no experience with the use in children and adolescents, so the combination of losartan and hydrochlorothiazide is not administered to children and adolescents.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, and must be discontinued immediately once pregnancy is confirmed. Do not use if you are allergic to this medication or its components, have severely impaired kidney function, or have specific electrolyte imbalances. Caution is advised for patients with liver or kidney impairment, hypotension, hyperuricemia or gout, and in elderly patients. This medication lowers blood pressure and may cause dizziness or drowsiness, so use caution when driving or operating machinery. Due to the presence of hydrochlorothiazide, electrolyte imbalances may occur, requiring regular blood tests and vigilance against dehydration. This medication can interact with other drugs, so do not take potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements without consulting your physician. Report any new skin lesions or unusual symptoms during treatment to your healthcare provider, and avoid sun exposure while taking this medication, ensuring the use of sunscreen. Safety has not been established for use in children and adolescents, so it is not used in these populations. While this medication is effective for treating hypertension, rare adverse effects such as abdominal pain, swelling, dizziness, cough, and rash may occur; consult a physician if symptoms are severe or persistent. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should consult a physician, and breastfeeding mothers are advised to either discontinue breastfeeding or stop taking this medication.
