Improves symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia and urinary flow, reduces the need for surgery
This medication improves symptoms caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia, helps with the regression of the enlarged prostate, and improves urinary flow. It also reduces the occurrence of acute urinary retention and decreases the need for surgical procedures such as transurethral resection of the prostate or prostatectomy. Overall, it is effective in alleviating prostate-related symptoms.
Administered orally as 5 mg of Finasteride once daily regardless of meals. Even if symptoms improve when taking the medication, a minimum treatment duration of 6 months is required.
This medication should not be used by children and women. Particularly, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not touch broken pieces of this medication, although it is safe in its intact form due to its coating. This medication may affect mental health; if symptoms of depression or mood changes occur, consult a healthcare professional immediately. It is contraindicated in individuals with allergies to this medication or its components, women, children, and patients with certain genetic lactose intolerance. Patients with liver function problems should use this medication cautiously. This medication generally has few side effects, but issues related to sexual function (such as erectile dysfunction, decreased libido, and ejaculatory disorders) may occur, and some patients may also experience breast-related unusual symptoms. Rare reports of male breast cancer have been associated with long-term use, but a direct correlation has not yet been established. This medication may increase the risk of prostate cancer, so regular examinations and monitoring are necessary. There are no known special interactions with other medications, and it does not affect the CYP-450 metabolic pathway. Pregnant and nursing women should not use this medication, especially pregnant women should take precautions as it may affect male fetuses. Safety and efficacy in children have not been established, hence it should not be used in pediatrics. Special dosage adjustments are not required for the elderly, but usage should be based on individual health conditions. This medication lowers prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, so care should be taken when interpreting PSA test results. There is no specific antidote for overdose, and it is important to adhere to the recommended dosage. Store this medication out of reach of children, and keep it in its original container to maintain quality.
