Treatment of hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia improvement and reduction of cardiovascular disease risk
This medication is used as an adjunct when dietary interventions and exercise do not adequately control primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It is also effective as an adjunct to dietary treatment or other lipid-lowering therapies in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. It helps to lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol to target levels in patients with hypercholesterolemia, thereby slowing the progression of atherosclerosis. It is also used to reduce total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol in pediatric patients aged 10 to 17 years with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, in conjunction with dietary interventions. Additionally, it serves as an adjunct to dietary treatment in patients with primary dysbetalipoproteinemia. Finally, it aids in reducing the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and arterial revascularization procedures in adult patients at high risk for cardiovascular disease. It is effectively utilized for various dyslipidemias and reducing cardiovascular disease risk.
The initial dose is 5 mg once daily. If necessary, the dosage may be adjusted at intervals of 4 weeks or more, with a usual maintenance dose of 10 mg once daily. The dose may be increased up to a maximum of 20 mg per day. It can be taken at any time of the day regardless of food.
For pediatric patients aged 10 to 17 years, the dose is 5 mg to 20 mg once daily. The dosage should be individually adjusted according to the recommended treatment goals and can be adjusted at intervals of 4 weeks or more.
