It should also be avoided by patients with severe inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and toxic megacolon. Furthermore, individuals allergic to this drug or its components should not take it. While taking this drug, absorption of other orally administered drugs, such as antiepileptics, may be hindered due to its rapid transit action through the gastrointestinal tract, so it is advisable not to take them together. Additionally, medications that are well dissolved in alcohol but poorly dissolved in water may increase solubility due to the polyethylene glycol 3350 contained in this drug, so caution is warranted. The use of this drug is not recommended for children under the age of 12, and pregnant or breastfeeding women should only take it after consulting with a physician. Allergic reactions may present as skin rashes, hives, itching, angioedema, and difficulty breathing, in which case use should be discontinued immediately. Symptoms such as hyperkalemia, hypokalemia, headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, dyspepsia, abdominal bloating, anal discomfort, and peripheral edema may also occur. Patients with renal function issues can take this drug without special dosage adjustments, but caution is needed as overdose may cause severe abdominal pain or bloating.
