Improvement of blood pressure control with the combination of amlodipine and valsartan in essential hypertension

  • Essential hypertension
View approved original text

For patients with essential hypertension, this medication is used to aid in blood pressure control when sufficient control is not achieved with monotherapy of amlodipine or valsartan. This medication helps lower blood pressure by dilating blood vessels and aids in reducing the risk of complications caused by hypertension. It is effective for ongoing blood pressure management and plays an important role in maintaining cardiovascular health. Therefore, it is well utilized in the treatment of essential hypertension.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. This medication should not be used in patients who are allergic to its components or similar drugs, as well as in women who are pregnant or nursing, and in patients with severe renal or liver disease. Patients with low sodium or fluid levels in the body may experience hypotension, hence it is important to carefully assess their condition before administration and monitor blood pressure closely during treatment. Patients with high potassium levels should use caution if taking this medication alongside drugs that may increase potassium, and should have their potassium levels frequently checked. Patients with issues related to renal arteries or those who have undergone kidney transplantation should be carefully monitored as this medication may affect renal function. This medication may cause a serious allergic reaction known as angioedema; therefore, if swelling of the face or neck occurs, or if difficulty breathing is experienced, it should be discontinued immediately and medical advice should be sought. Patients with heart failure or those who have had a myocardial infarction may experience worsening renal function or hypotension with this medication, thus regular renal function tests are necessary. This medication may cause dizziness or fatigue when driving or operating machinery, so caution is advised. Interactions may occur when taken with specific other medications, so patients should inform their healthcare providers of any other medications they are taking. Elderly patients are recommended to take the same dosage as adults but should take care based on their physical condition. Overdosage may result in severe hypotension or cardiac problems, so it is crucial to adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage and seek medical attention if any abnormal symptoms appear.
