Treatment of angina
Angina is a condition caused by the narrowing of the coronary arteries that supply blood to the heart. This medication helps to improve blood flow to the heart by relaxing the blood vessels and alleviating chest pain and discomfort. It is used to reduce the symptoms of angina and protect heart function.
Adults: Administer nicorandil 5㎎ orally 3 times daily. Adjust the dose appropriately according to age and symptoms.
This medication should not be used in patients with cardiogenic shock, left heart failure accompanied by hypotension, or in patients with hypotension. Additionally, it should not be given to patients with allergic reactions or special constitutions to this drug. Caution is also advised for patients taking phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors (e.g., sildenafil, vardenafil, tadalafil). Use with caution in patients with glaucoma, severe liver dysfunction, acute pulmonary edema, and in the elderly. During the use of this medication, side effects such as headache, nausea, dizziness, facial flushing, and fatigue may occur. In severe cases, liver dysfunction or jaundice, thrombocytopenia, stomatitis, ulcers in the tongue, anal area, or gastrointestinal tract may occur, so if these symptoms appear, the medication should be stopped immediately and medical personnel notified. Avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery during the use of this medication, and note that headaches due to vasodilation may occur initially, necessitating adjustment or cessation of the dosage if symptoms are severe. There is a risk of excessively low blood pressure when used in combination with phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors, so it is essential to verify all medications being taken. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant are advised not to use this drug, and breastfeeding women are also encouraged to discontinue use. Safety in children has not been established; therefore, it should not be used in pediatric patients. Elderly patients may exhibit more side effects due to decreased bodily functions, so they should start from a lower dosage cautiously. In cases of overdose, excessive vasodilation may lead to hypotension and rapid heartbeat, requiring immediate hospital visit for appropriate treatment.
