This medication helps to lower the risk of cardiovascular disease. It particularly reduces the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with risk factors for coronary heart disease and in patients with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, it is effective in reducing the risk of non-fatal myocardial infarction, stroke, revascularization procedures, congestive heart failure hospitalization, and angina in patients who already have coronary heart disease. This medication is also used to treat hyperlipidemia, helping to lower bad cholesterol levels and raise good cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It is additionally used in pediatric patients with dyslipidemia and familial hypercholesterolemia who have difficulty controlling their condition through diet. Overall, this medication is used to improve various risk factors for cardiovascular disease and hyperlipidemia.
