This medication is used in the treatment of essential hypertension. It is also effective for patients with heart failure who are intolerant to ACE inhibitors and belong to NYHA class II to IV. It helps reduce the risk of death in stable patients with left ventricular failure or left ventricular systolic dysfunction after myocardial infarction. Therefore, it plays an important role not only in treating hypertension and heart failure but also in preventive management after myocardial infarction. This drug is used to improve cardiovascular health and protect life.

How to take

Adult dose

1. Essential Hypertension - Adults: The recommended dose is 80 mg orally once daily. If blood pressure control is needed, the dose can be increased to 160 mg once daily and up to a maximum of 320 mg. - Elderly (75 years and older): Start at 40 mg orally once daily. - For patients with renal impairment, fluid depletion in the blood, and liver impairment, start at 40 mg orally once daily, adjusting the dose as necessary.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. It is safe for pregnant women or those who may become pregnant and for breastfeeding women to avoid this medication. Patients with severely impaired liver function, very poor kidney function, or a history of certain vascular edema should also not use this medication. The elderly, patients with hyperkalemia, and those with mild to moderate liver impairment should use this medication cautiously and should start with low doses that are gradually increased. This drug has a blood pressure-lowering effect and can cause dizziness or fainting due to sudden blood pressure drops upon initial use. Patients undergoing dialysis or taking diuretics and patients with strict sodium restrictions are at higher risk of hypotension and should be closely monitored. Blood pressure, kidney function, and serum potassium levels should be regularly checked during treatment to detect abnormalities. Additionally, caution is needed when taking potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements together, as this can lead to dangerously high serum potassium levels. The efficacy of this medication can change when used with other antihypertensive medications or certain anti-inflammatory pain relievers, so consultation with a physician is recommended. Caution is necessary while driving or operating machinery due to potential dizziness. Safety for children and adolescents has not been established, so use is not recommended. In the case of an overdose, severe hypotension or loss of consciousness can occur, and immediate medical attention should be sought. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and it is advisable to avoid transferring it to another container.
