This medicine should not be used by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and by nursing women. It should not be given to patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, mechanical obstruction, or perforation as it may be harmful due to its stimulating effects on gastrointestinal motility. This drug should not be used in patients with a specific tumor called pheochromocytoma, as it can induce hypertension. Patients who are allergic to or have a sensitivity to this drug should also refrain from taking it. This medicine is not suitable for patients with liver disease, manic episodes, or early-stage bipolar disorder. Patients with malignant lesions in the breast should be cautious as this drug may increase prolactin levels, potentially causing abnormalities in the breast. Additionally, this drug contains lactose, so it should be avoided by patients with lactose intolerance or specific metabolic disorders. Hypertensive patients, children, and the elderly should be particularly careful when using this drug, especially children, who may develop extrapyramidal symptoms, making it important to avoid overdose. While using this drug, symptoms of endocrine abnormalities such as amenorrhea, excessive milk discharge, and gynecomastia may appear, so close monitoring is necessary. Extrapyramidal symptoms such as tremors, tongue twisting, and restlessness may rarely occur, and if they develop, discontinuation of the medication should be considered. Prolonged use may lead to tardive dyskinesia such as involuntary movements, which may persist even after stopping the medication. Gastrointestinal side effects may include dry mouth, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation. Cardiovascular issues may present as hypertension or arrhythmia, and in severe cases, serious conditions such as neuroleptic malignant syndrome can occur, necessitating immediate medical attention if symptoms such as high fever, muscle rigidity, or altered mental status emerge. Rarely, skin rashes or swelling may occur, and symptoms such as insomnia, drowsiness, dizziness, unsteadiness, erectile dysfunction, and variations in libido have also been reported. Patients should be informed about the possibility of milk leakage due to increased prolactin secretion during the use of this medicine and should closely monitor for extrapyramidal symptoms and endocrine abnormalities. Activities requiring concentration, such as driving or operating machinery, should be avoided while taking this drug. This drug may interact with other medications, especially those with anticholinergic effects, narcotic analgesics, digitalis preparations, benzamide medications, psychiatric drugs, drugs that prolong the QT interval, and those that cause electrolyte disturbances; caution is advised when used in combination. It should particularly be avoided with alcohol. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not use this drug, as safety for the fetus and newborn has not been established. In elderly patients, decreased renal function may prolong the retention of the drug in the body, requiring careful attention to dosing adjustments and adverse reaction monitoring. Finally, due to the emetic action of this drug, it may alleviate vomiting symptoms caused by intoxication, bowel obstruction, or brain tumors, so it should be used cautiously in these situations. Animal studies have reported reproductive dysfunction and potential tumor formation, so these risks should be considered with prolonged use.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
