Improvement of blood pressure control in cases of hypertension not adequately controlled with monotherapy
This medication is used additionally in hypertensive patients whose blood pressure is not sufficiently controlled with monotherapy, helping to effectively lower and control blood pressure.
The usual dose of this medication is one tablet containing Losartan Potassium 50 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg taken once daily. Doses exceeding Losartan Potassium 100 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg per day are not advisable. Treatment should begin with Losartan Potassium 50 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily, and if blood pressure is not controlled after three weeks of treatment, the dose may be increased to a maximum of Losartan Potassium 100 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg once daily.
There is no experience regarding the use in children and adolescents, so it is not administered to this population.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus, especially during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy; it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Patients with allergies to any ingredients in this medication, certain kidney diseases, liver disorders, electrolyte imbalances, or anuria should not take this medication. Patients with low blood pressure, impaired kidney function, liver disorders, diabetes, and the elderly should use this medication cautiously and under the guidance of a physician. This medication lowers blood pressure, so dizziness or drowsiness may occur early in treatment, necessitating caution during driving or operating machinery. Blood electrolyte levels and kidney function should be monitored regularly during treatment to confirm there are no abnormalities. It is advisable not to use potassium supplements or potassium-containing medications during treatment, and to consult a doctor when combining with other antihypertensive medications or diuretics. Hydrochlorothiazide may cause heightened sensitivity to sunlight, increasing the risk of skin cancer; thus, sun exposure should be limited and skin condition should be checked periodically. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised not to use this medication; if breastfeeding, they should either discontinue nursing or consult a physician. Safety has not been established for use in children and adolescents, hence it should not be administered to them. Overdose may lead to symptoms such as hypotension, dehydration, or electrolyte imbalance, so prescribed dosages should be strictly followed, and any adverse effects should prompt immediate contact with a medical institution.
