For gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers: Take 10 mg orally once a day, and depending on symptoms, it may be taken at 20 mg once a day. This medication is effective for the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers, and it is also used to alleviate symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease and for long-term maintenance therapy. Additionally, it is included in the antibiotic combination therapy for the treatment of gastrointestinal ulcers in patients infected with Helicobacter pylori and also helps in the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. This drug suppresses excessive gastric acid secretion, thereby improving symptoms of gastrointestinal diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

For gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers: Take 10 mg orally once a day, and depending on symptoms, it may be taken at 20 mg once a day. For erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: Take 10 mg or 20 mg once a day for 4-8 weeks. If symptoms do not improve after 8 weeks of treatment, it may be increased to 10 mg or 20 mg twice a day. For alleviating symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease: Take 10 mg orally once a day. If necessary, on-demand dosing is applicable.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who are allergic to certain ingredients or have experienced hypersensitivity reactions. Caution is especially required in cases where there is an allergy to penicillin or macrolide antibiotics, particularly when used in Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy with this drug. Furthermore, it should not be administered to patients taking certain heart-related medications or those on atazanavir or rilpivirine, pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid using this drug. It should be used cautiously in patients with impaired liver function, elderly patients, and those with a history of drug allergies, and immediate consultation with healthcare providers is advised if abnormal symptoms arise. During the use of this drug, various side effects such as skin rash, itching, blood abnormalities, liver dysfunction, cardiovascular issues, gastrointestinal symptoms, and neurological symptoms may occur, necessitating regular check-ups and status monitoring. Especially in cases of hepatitis, liver dysfunction, heart problems, or severe allergic reactions, treatment should be stopped immediately, and healthcare providers should be notified. Long-term use may increase the risk of osteoporosis and fractures, hence patients requiring prolonged administration should regularly check their bone health. This drug inhibits gastric acid secretion, which may affect the absorption of certain medications; therefore, consultation with healthcare providers is necessary when used in conjunction with other medications. Caution is needed when driving or operating machinery as drowsiness or decreased concentration may occur. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid using this drug, and to ensure the safety of children, the medication should be stored out of reach of children. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote available, and treatment and supportive therapy should be aligned with the symptoms; tablets should not be chewed or crushed but swallowed whole. There may be a slightly increased risk of gastrointestinal infections during the course of this medication, and if diarrhea persists, consultation with healthcare providers is necessary. This medication may cause absorption disorders of vitamin B12 with long-term use; thus nutritional status should be monitored if necessary.
