This medication helps reduce the risk of various cardiovascular diseases. It can lower the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with multiple risk factors for coronary heart disease or in patients with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, it is effective in reducing the risk of non-fatal myocardial infarction, stroke, revascularization, hospitalization due to congestive heart failure, and angina in patients who already have coronary heart disease. This drug is also used to treat hyperlipidemia, lowering cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, while increasing the levels of the good cholesterol, HDL. It is particularly used as an adjunct in patients with dyslipidemia unresponsive to dietary changes and those with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. It also helps reduce blood cholesterol levels in pediatric patients aged 10 to 17 years with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. In summary, this medication is used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and improve hyperlipidemia.
