Summary

Main use
Reduction of the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke, and improvement of hyperlipidemia
Who takes it
Adults · Children
Adult dose
For hyperlipidemia, the recommended starting dose is 10 mg once daily. For patients requiring greater LDL-cholesterol reduction, it may start at 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. This medication is administered within a range of 10 to 80 mg once daily. The initial and maintenance doses are individualized based on patient characteristics, with lipid levels analyzed every 2 to 4 weeks to adjust the dosage. The goal of treatment is to lower LDL-cholesterol levels, so it is recommended to monitor LDL-cholesterol levels at the start of treatment and during response evaluations. However, if LDL-cholesterol levels cannot be monitored, total cholesterol levels may be used to monitor treatment response. In patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the treatment dose is 10 to 80 mg once daily, administered in conjunction with other lipid-lowering therapies (e.g., LDL apheresis) or if such therapies are not possible.
Child dose
The recommended starting dose for pediatric patients (10 to 17 years old) with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia is 10 mg once daily, with a maximum dose of 20 mg once daily. The dosage should be adjusted according to treatment goals and be administered with at least 4-week intervals.

This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It reduces the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with multiple risk factors for coronary heart disease or in patients with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, in patients who already have coronary heart disease, it lowers the risks associated with myocardial infarction, stroke, vascular surgeries, congestive heart failure, and angina. It also reduces total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia while increasing HDL-cholesterol, thereby improving blood lipid levels. It serves as an effective adjunctive therapy for patients with dyslipidemia not controlled by diet. Moreover, it is used in children and adolescents aged 10 to 17 years with familial hypercholesterolemia to help lower cholesterol levels.
