How to take

Adult dose

Adults: Administer 50∼100mg of diacerein per day orally in 1∼2 divided doses after meals. Adjust the dose appropriately according to symptoms. For patients with a history of loose stools or diarrhea, an initial dose of 50mg once daily for the first 2-4 weeks is recommended, followed by 50mg twice daily.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by patients with certain diseases. For example, patients with inflammatory bowel disease or bowel obstruction syndrome, patients with unexplained abdominal pain, patients allergic to this medication or similar components, patients with liver disease or a history of liver disease, and children under 15 years old should not take this medication. Additionally, patients with a history of small intestine or colon disease, pregnant or nursing women, and elderly patients over 65 years old should exercise caution when taking this medication, and dosages may need to be reduced for the elderly. This medication may cause digestive symptoms such as diarrhea, loose stools, or abdominal pain, and long-term use could result in serious gastrointestinal complications such as gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, or perforations. Rarely, pigmentation may occur in the rectal mucosa. If diarrhea worsens, dehydration or electrolyte imbalance may occur, so caution is advised. The skin may show common symptoms such as itching, rash, or eczema, and liver enzyme levels may increase due to liver dysfunction. Long-term use of this medication should strictly follow a doctor's instructions, and if diarrhea occurs, use should be stopped immediately, and medical advice should be sought. Additionally, it should be avoided to use with laxatives. Due to the risk of liver damage, caution is particularly warranted when taking this medication with other drugs that may pose a risk of liver function issues or hepatotoxicity, and it is advisable to limit alcohol consumption as well. If liver enzyme levels rise or symptoms of liver damage occur, discontinue the medication and consult a doctor. This medication can interfere with absorption when taken with antacids containing calcium, magnesium, aluminum, or salt, so it is recommended to take them at least 2 hours apart. Taking it with diuretics may enhance diuretic effects and increase the risk of dehydration or hypokalemia, so caution is necessary. Additionally, concurrent use with cardiac glycosides may increase the risk of arrhythmias, so be careful. Pregnant or nursing women are advised not to take this medication. Animal studies have reported delayed fetal bone formation, and while the effects on humans are unclear, small amounts may be transmitted through breast milk. If this medication is overdosed, severe diarrhea may occur, and appropriate treatment such as electrolyte supplementation should be received.
