Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin, used for blood sugar control. While taking this medication, serious allergic reactions may occur; if symptoms such as rash, itching, or difficulty breathing appear, discontinue use immediately and consult a healthcare professional. Serious pancreatic inflammation, known as pancreatitis, may rarely occur, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or fever occur, visit a hospital immediately. Do not take this medication if you have severely compromised kidney function, dehydration, serious infections, or heart disease. If undergoing tests using iodinated contrast agents, you must stop this medication for a certain period before and after the test, and restart only after confirming that kidney function is normal. It is safest for pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, and nursing mothers not to take this medication. This medication may cause hypoglycemia, so when skipping meals or having irregular meals, excessive exercise, or taking other glucose-lowering agents, blood sugar levels should be carefully monitored. Patients with impaired liver function or those who consume alcohol excessively may be at risk of developing lactic acidosis, a serious metabolic anomaly, hence should avoid taking this medication. Regular monitoring of kidney function and vitamin B12 levels in the blood is important to ensure they remain normal. Patients scheduled for surgery should stop taking this medication 48 hours before surgery, and only resume after recovery of oral intake and confirmation of normal kidney function. This medication has not been adequately confirmed for safety and efficacy in children, so it is advisable not to use it in pediatric patients under 18 years of age. Elderly patients may have decreased kidney function, so dose adjustments and regular kidney function monitoring are necessary when taking this medication. In case of overdose of this medication, appropriate treatment should be sought immediately from a medical facility, and since blood dialysis may be necessary, swift response is important.
