Efficacy & effects

Improvement of postprandial hyperglycemia in diabetes

  • Postprandial hyperglycemia
View approved original text

This medication is used for patients with diabetes who experience difficulty controlling postprandial blood sugar levels even with dietary and exercise therapy. It is also helpful in cases where blood sugar levels are not sufficiently controlled despite treatment with oral hypoglycemics or insulin. It helps improve the rapid rise of blood sugar levels after meals, aiding in better blood sugar control. This can facilitate improved overall management of blood sugar levels and may contribute to the prevention of diabetes-related complications. It is used to enhance the overall blood sugar condition of patients.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Since efficacy and tolerability vary among patients, the physician must determine the dose according to each patient's condition. The usual administration is as follows. The usual adult dose is 0.2mg of voglibose per administration, taken orally 3 times daily before each meal. Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with severe ketoacidosis or diabetic coma. It should also be avoided in patients with severe infections or those undergoing surgery, as well as in patients with severe trauma. Patients allergic to this drug's ingredients should not use it. This drug contains lactose, so it should not be administered to patients with galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Patients with poor digestive function or chronic intestinal diseases should use this medication carefully, and extra caution is needed if excessive intestinal gas worsens symptoms. Patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function or the elderly should also use this medication with caution. When used with other hypoglycemics, there is a risk of hypoglycemia, so it is essential to start with a low dose and monitor closely. This medication can cause hypoglycemia, so if symptoms of hypoglycemia occur, glucose should be consumed instead of sugar. Symptoms such as abdominal bloating, increased flatulence, and signs of liver dysfunction may occur, so if these symptoms arise, immediate consultation with a physician is necessary. Patients with liver cirrhosis should monitor their bowel movements closely, as constipation may lead to increased ammonia levels and cognitive dysfunction. This medication is only to be used for patients diagnosed with diabetes, and for those who are managed solely by diet and exercise, it should only be considered when blood sugar levels exceed a certain threshold. During treatment, regular blood sugar checks should be conducted to continually assess the drug's efficacy and necessity. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this medication cautiously, as its safety has not been established, and nursing mothers should also avoid it if possible. Safety has not been established for children, so there is no experience using it in this population. The elderly may have reduced bodily functions, so they should start with a low dose and carefully monitor blood sugar and gastrointestinal symptoms.
