This medication is used to improve atherosclerotic symptoms in adult patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or peripheral artery disease. It also improves atherosclerotic symptoms that may lead to cardiovascular mortality, myocardial infarction, and stroke in patients with acute coronary syndrome who have undergone or are to undergo drug therapy, coronary intervention, or coronary artery bypass surgery. It helps reduce the risk of thromboembolism and stroke in adult patients with atrial fibrillation who have vascular risk factors but are not suitable for vitamin K antagonist therapy and have a low risk of bleeding. This medication is used to effectively improve and prevent various vascular-related diseases and risks.

How to take

Adult dose

For patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or peripheral vascular disease, administer clopidogrel orally once daily at a dose of 75 mg. For patients with acute coronary syndrome, initiate with a loading dose of 300 mg orally once daily on the first day, followed by a maintenance dose of 75 mg once daily. During this time, 75 to 325 mg of aspirin should be taken once daily in combination. For patients with atrial fibrillation, administer clopidogrel orally once daily at a dose of 75 mg.

Precautions

This medication helps prevent blood platelets from aggregating, which helps prevent thrombosis. Its efficacy may be reduced in individuals genetically deficient in certain enzymes, and alternative treatment methods should be considered in such cases. Also, concomitant use with medications that activate certain enzymes may increase the risk of bleeding, so such combinations should be avoided. This medication should not be administered to patients with allergies to this drug, those with bleeding, severely damaged liver function, nursing mothers, and patients with lactose intolerance. If bleeding symptoms occur during treatment, contact a physician immediately. Patients, particularly those at risk for gastrointestinal or ocular bleeding, should use caution. Patients scheduled for surgery should discontinue this medication 5-7 days before the procedure and use caution when taking it with other medications that pose a risk of bleeding. Since this medication may increase the risk of bleeding, regular monitoring of status through blood tests is recommended. During the course of this medication, bleeding may take longer to stop than usual, so caution is required in case of injuries. The concomitant use of this medication with aspirin or other antiplatelet or anticoagulant agents may increase the risk of bleeding, so it should be discussed with a physician. During pregnancy, the risk to the fetus is not significant; however, the risk of bleeding increases during delivery, so it is advisable to discontinue its use prior to labor. If nursing, this medication may pass into breast milk, so whether to continue breastfeeding should be discussed with a physician. Children, the elderly, and patients with impaired kidney or liver function should be monitored more closely when taking this medication. Overdose may increase the risk of bleeding, and since there is no specific antidote, consult medical personnel immediately. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.
