This medication is used for the treatment of hypertension and helps improve myocardial ischemic symptoms caused by stable angina and variant angina due to narrowing of the coronary arteries or vascular constriction.

How to take

Adult dose

For esamlodipine, take 2.5 mg orally once daily; the dose may be increased to a maximum of 5 mg per day based on the patient's response. Adjust as appropriate according to symptoms. Take this medicine with sufficient amounts of water.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. It should not be taken if there is an allergy to this medicine, any components in this medicine, or similar types of drugs. It is safer not to take this medicine during pregnancy or if there is a possibility of becoming pregnant, as well as during breastfeeding. Patients in cardiogenic shock, those with severely impaired heart function, and those with severe aortic stenosis may be at risk if this medicine is used. Patients with unstable angina and those who have had a myocardial infarction within the last month should also avoid this medicine. Patients with very poor liver function and severe hypotension should also refrain from taking this medicine. Patients with severe kidney impairment or those undergoing dialysis, elderly patients, patients with acute heart failure, patients in hypertensive crisis, and patients with slightly to moderately impaired liver function should use this medicine cautiously. When taking this medicine, various side effects may occur. The most common side effects include facial flushing and warmth, fatigue, and swelling. Palpitations or symptoms such as dizziness, headache, nausea, and drowsiness may also occur. Additionally, ankle swelling or dyspepsia may be experienced. Rarely, various adverse reactions have been reported, including dry mouth, increased sweating, hypotension, syncope, sensory abnormalities, erectile dysfunction, skin rash, and liver function abnormalities. If these symptoms occur, consult a physician immediately. Sudden discontinuation of this medicine can worsen symptoms, so the dosage should be gradually reduced according to a doctor's instructions, and it is important not to stop taking it arbitrarily. The safety of this medicine has not been established for pregnant or breastfeeding women, so it is safest not to administer it, and breastfeeding should be discontinued during its use. Elderly patients may have increased drug concentration and prolonged action in the body; therefore, it is necessary to start at a low dose and observe the condition closely during use. In the case of overdose, severe hypotension, cardiac arrhythmias, and shock may occur, requiring immediate emergency treatment, and appropriate medical care should be provided according to medical personnel's instructions. This medicine may interact with other medications, so individuals taking other medications should inform their doctor or pharmacist, especially when used together with certain antibiotics, antihypertensives, antidepressants, and heart medications. When taking, it should be taken with sufficient water, and caution should be exercised when driving or operating hazardous machinery, as dizziness or drowsiness may occur.
