Summary

Main use
Treatment of gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, alleviation of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease, and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders.
Who takes it
Adults
Adult dose
For gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer: normally, adults are given 10 mg of rabeprazole sodium orally once a day. Depending on the symptoms, it can be increased to 20 mg once a day. Typically, treatment lasts up to 8 weeks for gastric ulcers and up to 6 weeks for duodenal ulcers. Erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: usually, administer 10 mg or 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) should be administered for 8 weeks; if not resolved, an additional 8 weeks supply of 10 mg or 20 mg can be given orally twice daily. However, administering 20 mg twice daily is limited to patients with confirmed severe mucosal damage. For alleviating symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease: administer 10 mg once daily. If symptoms are not controlled after 4 weeks of administration, further evaluation is needed. After symptoms have resolved, on-demand therapy with 10 mg once daily can be used to control any symptoms that appear subsequently. For long-term maintenance therapy of gastroesophageal reflux disease: dependently administer 10 mg or 20 mg orally once daily. For eradication of Helicobacter pylori: patients infected with Helicobacter pylori should be treated with eradication therapy. It is recommended to combine 20 mg of this medication with 500 mg of clarithromycin and 1 g of amoxicillin, taken twice daily for 7 days. For Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: the recommended initial dose for adults is 60 mg once daily. The dosage can be adjusted to a maximum of 120 mg per day based on individual patient needs. Doses of 100 mg can be given once daily, while the 120 mg should be split as 60 mg twice daily. Patients with Zollinger-Ellison syndrome have been treated with this medication for up to a year. ◯ In patients with liver disease: adverse reactions of hepatic encephalopathy have been reported in patients with liver cirrhosis; caution should be exercised when administering. ◯ In pediatrics: safety in children has not been established. ◯ In the elderly: caution is required as liver function may often be impaired.

Precautions

This drug should not be used in patients who have had allergic reactions or hypersensitivity to specific medications or ingredients. Additionally, caution is advised when combined with certain antibiotics, as allergic reactions may occur. It is safest for pregnant or breastfeeding women not to take this medication. Patients with liver dysfunction or the elderly should use this medication with special caution. Allergic reactions such as skin rash and itching may occur during administration, so the medication should be stopped immediately if symptoms appear. Regular blood tests and liver function tests are recommended to monitor for any abnormalities. Various side effects may arise from the heart, gastrointestinal tract, and nervous system, so consult a healthcare professional if symptoms appear. Prolonged use may increase the risk of fractures and may cause electrolyte imbalances such as hypomagnesemia, so caution is necessary. This medication inhibits gastric acid secretion, which may slightly increase the risk of bacterial infections in the stomach; if symptoms such as diarrhea persist, a hospital visit is necessary. Caution is required when driving or operating machinery due to potential drowsiness or dizziness. There may be interactions with other medications, so it is essential to inform healthcare providers if other medications are being taken, especially when used with certain antiviral agents or antibiotics, as this may decrease efficacy or increase the risk of side effects. This drug should be swallowed whole in tablet form without chewing or crushing, and must be kept out of reach of children. When taken for an extended period, regular check-ups are necessary, and any unusual symptoms should be reported to a healthcare provider immediately.
