Improvement of blood pressure control in essential hypertension with the combination of amlodipine and valsartan

  • Essential hypertension
View approved original text

For patients with essential hypertension, if blood pressure control is insufficient with monotherapy of amlodipine or valsartan, effective management of blood pressure can be achieved through combination therapy. This helps lower blood pressure, reduces cardiovascular risks, and prevents complications. This treatment is used to safely and steadily control blood pressure to maintain healthy vascular conditions.

Precautions

This medication may cause serious harm or death to the fetus and newborn if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so discontinue use immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. This medicine should not be administered to individuals who are allergic to active ingredients or similar components, to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, to patients with severe kidney or liver disease, or to patients with a history of specific heart diseases or vascular edema. Patients with low sodium or body fluid levels may face hypotension risks, so their condition should be checked before administration, and blood pressure and condition should be closely monitored during use. Patients with high potassium levels or those taking medications that may increase potassium levels should have their potassium levels frequently monitored, and patients with impaired renal function should also exercise caution. Since this medication may have a strong blood pressure-lowering effect, if hypotensive symptoms appear, the patient should be placed flat, and if necessary, isotonic saline should be administered to stabilize blood pressure. Patients with heart conditions such as heart failure or post-myocardial infarction, as well as those with acute myocardial infarction, should have their kidney function and condition carefully monitored while taking this medication. This drug may cause dizziness or fatigue during driving or operating machinery; caution is advised. The usual dosage is recommended for the elderly, but greater caution is required for patients with decreased kidney or liver function. This medication may interact with other antihypertensives, diuretics, potassium-sparing agents, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), etc., so be sure to inform healthcare providers of any medications being taken. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, dizziness, and irregular heartbeat may occur, so it is essential to visit a medical facility immediately for appropriate treatment. It is not recommended for pediatric patients as safety and efficacy have not been adequately established. If unusual symptoms occur during the course of treatment with this medication, it is important to consult with a healthcare provider for appropriate measures.
