Improvement in blood pressure control for essential hypertension
This medication is used to effectively lower blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure is insufficiently controlled by monotherapy with amlodipine or valsartan.
The recommended dosage for this medication is 1 tablet once daily, to be taken with water regardless of meals. It is advisable to take it at the same time each day (e.g., morning). After adjusting the dosage of individual components, if blood pressure control is not achieved, a switch to this combination may be considered. For patients with mild to moderate renal impairment, no dosage adjustment is needed, but severe renal impairment patients should not receive this medication. Patients with liver impairment need to limit valsartan daily dose to no more than 80mg.
Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients under 18 years of age have not been established, so the use of this medication is not recommended.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second or third trimester of pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients with allergies to the active ingredients or similar drugs, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, patients with severe kidney or liver dysfunction, and patients with certain heart diseases should not take this medication. Patients who are deficient in sodium or fluids should correct their condition before taking this medication, and careful observation is required during the initial administration due to potential hypotension symptoms. Patients with high potassium levels or those taking other medications that may increase potassium levels should have their potassium levels checked frequently. Patients with renal vascular issues or those who have recently received a kidney transplant should use this medication with caution as it may affect kidney function. If symptoms of angioedema such as swelling of the face, lips, or tongue occur, discontinue use immediately and do not resume. Patients with heart failure or after a myocardial infarction may experience changes in kidney function while taking this medication, hence regular monitoring of kidney function is necessary. Overdosing on this medication can lead to hypotension or irregular heartbeats, so immediate medical attention is required if an overdose occurs. Dizziness or fatigue may occur while driving or operating machinery, so caution is advised, especially upon initial use or dosage adjustments. This medication may interact with other antihypertensives, potassium supplements, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), so consult a doctor or pharmacist if other medications are being taken. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not take this medication, and breastfeeding women should also avoid this medication. Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients under 18 years of age have not been established, so use is not recommended. Elderly patients may use the same dosages as adults, but need to be monitored closely depending on their condition. Regular liver function tests or kidney function tests during treatment with this medication are recommended, and any unusual symptoms should be reported to medical personnel immediately.
