Efficacy & effects

Improvement of blood pressure control in essential hypertension

  • Essential hypertension
View approved original text

Essential hypertension is a condition where blood pressure is persistently high, imposing a burden on the cardiovascular system. Amlodipine and valsartan function to lower blood pressure through vasodilation and blood pressure regulation, respectively. However, when blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy, the two drugs can be appropriately combined for more effective blood pressure management. Well-controlled blood pressure can reduce the risk of complications such as heart disease or stroke. These medications are used in the treatment of essential hypertension.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm or death to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients with allergies to the active ingredients or similar medications, pregnant or nursing women, patients with severe kidney or liver impairment, and those with specific heart diseases should not use this medication. Individuals with low sodium or fluid levels in the body should correct their condition before taking this medication, and if symptoms of hypotension occur while taking it, they should seek appropriate measures immediately. Patients with high potassium levels should use caution when taking this medication and potassium-raising drugs together and should have their potassium levels checked regularly. Patients with impaired kidney function, kidney transplant recipients, those with a history of angioedema, heart failure, or recent myocardial infarction should exercise special caution when using this medication. As this medication lowers blood pressure, care should be taken while driving or operating machinery due to potential dizziness or fatigue. Patients taking other blood pressure medications, potassium-sparing diuretics, certain anti-inflammatory agents, heart medications, etc., may experience interactions, so consultation with a doctor or pharmacist is advisable. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not use this medication, and nursing mothers are also advised to avoid it. Children under 18 years of age are not recommended to use this medication as its safety and efficacy have not been adequately established. Elderly patients may be recommended similar dosages as adults, but caution may be necessary depending on individual conditions. Overdosage of this medication can result in severe hypotension and heart-related issues, so the dosage should be strictly adhered to, and any unusual symptoms should prompt immediate medical attention.
