Summary

Main use
Reduction of the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke, and improvement of hypercholesterolemia
Who takes it
Adults · Children
Adult dose
For the treatment of hyperlipidemia, the recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily. For patients who require greater reductions in LDL cholesterol, it may be started at 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. It should be administered within a dosage range of 10 to 80 mg once daily. The initial and maintenance doses should be individualized based on therapeutic goals and patient characteristics, and lipid levels should be analyzed and the dose adjusted after 2 to 4 weeks. In the case of homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the administration dose is 10 to 80 mg once daily, used in conjunction with other lipid-lowering treatments (e.g., LDL apheresis) or when such treatments are not feasible.
Child dose
The recommended initial dose for pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (ages 10 to 17) is 10 mg once daily, and the maximum recommended dose is 20 mg once daily. The dosage should be adjusted based on therapeutic goals at intervals of 4 weeks or more.

This medication helps to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It lowers the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with risk factors for coronary heart disease and in patients with type 2 diabetes. In patients already diagnosed with coronary heart disease, it reduces the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, vascular surgery, congestive heart failure, and hospitalization related to angina. Additionally, in patients with dyslipidemia, it lowers total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels when used alongside diet, while increasing HDL cholesterol, thus improving blood lipid profile. It is also used as an adjunct to diet in pediatric patients aged 10 to 17 years, particularly those with a family history or high LDL cholesterol levels. This medication effectively improves cardiovascular diseases and hyperlipidemia.
