Efficacy & effects

Improvement of hypoalbuminemia

  • Hypoalbuminemia
View approved original text

This medication effectively treats hypoalbuminemia by improving albumin levels in the blood, especially in patients with non-target type liver cirrhosis who show hypoalbuminemia despite adequate food intake. This can help improve the overall nutritional status and liver function recovery of patients, contributing to an improved quality of life by alleviating hypoalbuminemia.

How to take

Adult dose

Typically, one pouch is orally administered three times daily after meals for adults. Shake the suspension well before use.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with congenital branched-chain amino acid metabolism disorders. Serious issues such as seizures or respiratory distress may occur if administered to such patients. While using this medication, gastrointestinal symptoms such as occasional constipation, diarrhea, abdominal distension, abdominal discomfort, and vomiting may occur; if these symptoms appear, the dosage should be reduced or temporarily discontinued. It may affect kidney function, causing elevated BUN levels in blood tests; in such cases, dosage adjustment or temporary discontinuation may be necessary. Metabolic disorders may lead to elevated blood ammonia levels, requiring dosage adjustment if these symptoms occur. Abnormal liver function may lead to increased AST, ALT, and bilirubin levels, or side effects such as skin rash, itching, and swelling of the face or legs. This medication is primarily used for patients with hypoalbuminemia due to liver cirrhosis, and if diabetes or hepatic encephalopathy is present, careful monitoring of food intake and appropriate dietary guidance should be provided as needed. It is advisable not to use this medication for patients with severe hepatic encephalopathy or significantly reduced liver function, as its effectiveness is not expected. This medication contains only branched-chain amino acids and cannot supply all necessary amino acids, so sufficient protein and caloric intake through meals is required; caution should be exercised regarding deterioration of nutritional status with prolonged use. If BUN or ammonia levels are abnormally high in blood tests, caution should be exercised regarding possible overdose of the drug. If hypoalbuminemia does not improve after more than 2 months of treatment, it is necessary to switch to other therapeutic methods. Elderly patients may have reduced physical function, and metabolic abnormalities, such as elevated blood ammonia levels, may occur; careful administration is necessary. For women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, the safety of this medication has not been established, and the risks and benefits should be carefully considered before use. Safety for children has not been confirmed, so it is advisable not to use this medication in pediatric patients. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container may pose a risk of accidents and also affect the quality retention of the medication.
