Precautions
This medication should not be taken by individuals allergic to beef or pork. Individuals with allergies to this medication or its components, or those with a history of such experiences, should also avoid taking it. Patients with acute pancreatitis or those whose chronic pancreatitis has suddenly worsened should not take this medication. Patients with cystic fibrosis, pregnant women, or women who might become pregnant must consult a doctor or pharmacist before taking this medication. Nursing women should also consult a healthcare professional before taking this medication since it is unclear if this drug passes into breast milk. Patients taking folic acid preparations should regularly check their folic acid levels as this medication may interfere with folic acid absorption. Patients taking diabetes medications such as acarbose or miglitol should carefully monitor their blood sugar levels as this medication may affect blood sugar control when taken together. If symptoms of allergies, such as skin rash, sneezing, tearing, or bronchospasms occur while taking this medication, it should be discontinued immediately and a healthcare professional consulted. Symptoms such as decreased appetite, dizziness, balance disorders, rhinitis, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, stomatitis, skin rash, and fatigue should prompt discontinuation and consultation with a doctor. Severe side effects such as bowel obstruction or colitis have been reported, particularly in patients with cystic fibrosis, so any unusual abdominal symptoms should be reported to medical staff immediately. In children, care must be taken as ulcers may develop around the mouth and anus. Overdosage of this medication may lead to increased uric acid levels, so the prescribed dosage must be adhered to. This medication is specifically used to improve dyspepsia due to pancreatic disease and should not be used for other purposes. Care should be taken to prevent inhalation of the powder form, as inhalation may cause bronchospasms or rhinitis. If symptoms do not improve after taking this medication for more than 2 weeks, it should be discontinued and a doctor or pharmacist consulted. If dosage adjustments are necessary, they should only be made per a doctor's instructions, based on symptom improvement. This medication should be swallowed whole with water and should not be crushed or chewed. Care must be taken, especially with children, as prolonged retention in the mouth may cause stomatitis or ulcers. Store out of reach of children and keep in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. To prevent misuse and maintain quality, do not transfer to another container.
