This medication is used for the treatment of myocardial ischemia resulting from hypertension, stable angina due to fixed occlusion of the coronary arteries, and variant angina due to vasospasm.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken with plenty of water. Administer 2.5 mg of esamlodipine orally once daily, and it may be increased to a maximum of 5 mg daily depending on the patient's response. Adjust as appropriate according to symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by certain patients. For example, patients who have had allergic reactions to this medication or similar components, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, breastfeeding women, patients in severe shock, patients with severe heart valve disease, patients with unstable angina, patients who have recently experienced a myocardial infarction, patients with very poor liver function, and patients with severe hypotension should not take this medication. Furthermore, patients with severely impaired kidney function, elderly patients, patients with acute heart failure, patients with a sudden significantly elevated blood pressure, and patients with slightly to moderately impaired liver function should use this medication cautiously. While taking this medication, various side effects can occur. Initially, flushing or warmth on the face may occur, and fatigue or swelling of the hands and feet may present. There have been reports of palpitations, dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, nausea, drowsiness, ankle swelling, and in rare cases, severely low blood pressure or serious side effects such as skin rash, itching, breathing difficulties, and liver function abnormalities may occur, so immediate consultation with a physician is necessary if unusual symptoms arise. Sudden discontinuation of this medication may worsen symptoms; therefore, any reduction or cessation should be done gradually under medical supervision. Additionally, patients with poor liver function may experience prolonged effects of this medication and should take it carefully under medical advice. This medication may interact with other drugs, so patients currently taking other medications should inform their healthcare provider or pharmacist. In particular, it is not recommended to take it with grapefruit juice as it may excessively increase the medication's effects. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised not to take this medication, and breastfeeding should be discontinued if they are taking it. Elderly patients may experience stronger effects and side effects, so it is best to start at a low dose and monitor their condition. In case of overdose, severe hypotension, heart irregularities, or consciousness disturbances could occur, requiring immediate medical attention. Finally, this medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.
