This medication helps improve symptoms caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia. It alleviates thickened prostate tissue and facilitates urine flow. Additionally, it reduces the risk of acute urinary retention. As a result, it can decrease the need for prostate-related surgeries. Overall, this medication contributes to the convenience and symptom relief of patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Finasteride should be taken orally as 5 mg once daily, regardless of meals. Even if symptoms improve during use, treatment must continue for at least 6 months.
This medication should not be used in children or women. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should take care to avoid handling broken pieces of this medication. This medication can cause mood changes or mental health issues such as depression; if such symptoms occur, consult a professional immediately. Individuals allergic to this medication, women, children, or pregnant women should not take it. Patients with liver dysfunction should use this medication cautiously. Generally, this medication has mild and temporary side effects, but issues related to sexual function or breast abnormalities may arise. Pregnant or nursing women should not take this medication, as exposure during pregnancy may affect male fetuses. Safety and efficacy have not been established for children, so it is not administered to them. Elderly patients can take it just like regular adults without needing dosage adjustments. This medication can affect the diagnosis of prostate cancer, so caution should be exercised in interpreting PSA levels. No specific treatment is required for overdose, but it is important to adhere to the recommended dosage. Store out of reach of children and keep in the original container to maintain quality.
