Precautions

This medication can cause vasodilation and lower blood pressure, so taking it with nitrates or nitric oxide (NO) donors can lead to dangerously low blood pressure. Therefore, the doctor must verify whether the patient is taking these medications before prescribing this medication, and caution is necessary during and after treatment. Patients with cardiovascular disease should have their heart condition thoroughly evaluated before using this medication, and if sexual activity poses a burden on the heart, it is safer not to use it. This medication can also temporarily lower blood pressure in healthy individuals, so patients with cardiovascular disease should be particularly cautious during sexual activity. For patients with severe arrhythmias, heart failure, unstable angina, hypotension or hypertension, and specific diseases such as pigmentary retinopathy, safety and effectiveness have not been established, and administration should be done very cautiously. This medication can rarely cause an erection lasting more than 4 hours or priapism accompanied by pain, and immediate medical attention is needed if these symptoms occur. Patients with left ventricular outflow obstruction or severely impaired blood pressure regulation may be sensitive to the vasodilating effects of this medication. When taken with specific antiviral medications such as ritonavir, blood concentrations of this medication can significantly increase, raising the risk of side effects, necessitating dose adjustments. This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame and should not be taken by patients with phenylketonuria. Patients with allergies to this medication or its components, those regularly or intermittently taking nitrates, those with severe cardiovascular conditions, severe liver failure or uncontrolled blood pressure issues, those who have recently experienced severe cerebrovascular diseases, patients with pigmentary retinopathy, individuals currently taking other erectile dysfunction treatments, and those under the age of 18 including females should not take this medication. Patients with penile deformities, bleeding disorders, the elderly, and those with severe renal failure or liver failure should be especially cautious, and starting with a lower dose is recommended. Common side effects when taking this medication include headache, flushing, dyspepsia, dizziness, visual disturbances, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, myalgia, arthralgia, rash, conjunctival injection, dryness of the eyes, eye fatigue, facial flushing, vasodilation, itching, dry skin, nasal dryness, rhinitis, nasal congestion, nasal bleeding, throat tightness, urinary tract infection, tachycardia, palpitations, hypotension, ocular pain, edema of the eye, and eyelid.
