Reduction of the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke, improvement of hypercholesterolemia, treatment of familial hypercholesterolemia
This medication helps prevent cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction, stroke, vascular surgery, and angina in adult and pediatric patients with various risk factors for cardiovascular disease. In particular, it reduces the risk of cardiovascular complications in patients with type 2 diabetes or coronary heart disease who have multiple risk factors. Furthermore, it lowers total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels in patients with hyperlipidemia and increases HDL-cholesterol, thereby improving blood lipids. It is used as an adjunctive treatment for various types of dyslipidemia that are not controlled by diet, and it is utilized to lower cholesterol levels in specific pediatric populations. Thus, it is effectively used in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases and dyslipidemia.
For the treatment of hyperlipidemia, the recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily; for patients requiring greater LDL-cholesterol reduction, starting doses can be increased to 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. The dosing range is 10 to 80 mg once daily. The initial and maintenance doses should be individualized based on treatment goals and response, and lipid levels should be analyzed and adjusted within 2 to 4 weeks after starting treatment.
For pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (ages 10 to 17), the recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily, with a maximum dose of 20 mg once daily. The dosage may be adjusted individually based on treatment goals, at intervals of 4 weeks.
