Reduces the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke, improves dyslipidemia
This medication reduces the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults at high risk of cardiovascular disease and in patients with type 2 diabetes, while also lowering the possibility of complications such as angioplasty and angina. Particularly in patients with existing coronary artery heart disease, it reduces the risk of fatal and non-fatal strokes, as well as hospitalization due to congestive heart failure. In addition, it is used to effectively lower cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, as well as to increase HDL cholesterol levels. It may also benefit patients with high serum triglycerides or dysbetalipoproteinemia, and it is used as an adjunctive treatment for hypercholesterolemia in pediatric patients with a family history or risk factors. Overall, this drug is used for improving various forms of dyslipidemia and cardiovascular risk factors.
For patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, the initial dose is 10 mg once daily, which may be increased to 20 mg or 40 mg as needed. The maximum dosage is 80 mg, and it can be taken at any time of the day regardless of meals. Lipid levels should be analyzed within 2 to 4 weeks of starting therapy to adjust the dosage. For patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the initial daily dose is 10 mg.
The recommended initial dose for pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (aged 10 to 17 years) is 10 mg once daily, with a maximum dosage of 20 mg per day. Dosage adjustments should be made at intervals of at least 4 weeks.
