This medication is used to improve symptoms due to atherosclerosis in adult patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, and peripheral arterial disease. It also effectively improves atherosclerotic symptoms such as death from cardiovascular anomalies, myocardial infarction, and stroke in adult patients with acute coronary syndrome who have undergone drug treatment, coronary intervention, or coronary artery bypass grafting. Additionally, it helps reduce the risk of atherothrombosis and thromboembolism, such as stroke, in patients with atrial fibrillation who have vascular risk factors and where vitamin K antagonists are inappropriate and the risk of bleeding is low. This medication is useful in preventing cardiovascular and vascular-related complications and improving symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

1. In patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or peripheral arterial disease, clopidogrel should be administered orally at a dose of 75 mg once daily. 2. In patients with acute coronary syndrome (unstable angina or non-Q-wave myocardial infarction), initiate with a loading dose of 300 mg orally once on the first day of treatment, followed by a maintenance dose of 75 mg orally once daily.

Precautions

This medication prevents platelets from aggregating, thereby preventing blood clotting. Individuals with a genetic deficiency in the specific enzyme (CYP2C19) may have reduced effectiveness of this medication; alternative treatment options should be considered in such cases. Additionally, caution is advised if this medication is taken in combination with drugs that activate the CYP2C19 enzyme, as this can increase the risk of bleeding due to excessive efficacy. Patients allergic to this medication or its ingredients, those with bleeding disorders, severely impaired liver function, women who are breastfeeding, or individuals with certain genetic disorders should not use this medication. Patients at high risk of bleeding or those scheduled for surgery should consult with a physician about the need to discontinue or adjust the medication. During treatment, it may be easy to experience bleeding; therefore, if any bleeding symptoms occur, medical personnel should be informed immediately. Extra caution is warranted when taken concurrently with other medications that increase the risk of bleeding. Rarely, prolonged use of this medication may lead to serious blood disorders. Therefore, if any symptoms of infection or abnormal symptoms appear, immediate medical attention should be sought. It is known that there is minimal effect on the fetus during pregnancy; however, the risk of bleeding may increase during delivery, and discontinuation of the medication before childbirth is advisable. If breastfeeding, consult with a physician about whether to continue or discontinue breastfeeding, as this medication may be excreted in breast milk. Safety in children has not been established, and in the elderly, caution is advised due to increased bleeding risk. Overdosing may increase the risk of bleeding; hence, it is crucial to adhere to the prescribed dosage and administration. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and not transferred to another container.
