Precautions

This medication is a topical agent containing the ingredient piroxicam, used to reduce inflammation and pain. This medication should not be used in the following cases: First, patients who have had allergic reactions to this medication or other piroxicam products; second, individuals with a specific type of asthma known as aspirin-induced asthma or those with a history of such asthma; third, individuals who have experienced symptoms such as hives, nasal inflammation, or angioedema due to aspirin or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should not use it; and children under 14 should not use this medication. Patients with bronchial asthma or allergies to propylene glycol should be cautious when using this medication. Upon application, side effects such as itching, redness, rash, skin peeling, eczema, contact dermatitis, and red spots may occur; usage should be discontinued if these symptoms worsen. Additionally, prolonged or excessive use may lead to systemic side effects such as nausea, gastrointestinal discomfort, breathing difficulties, and renal function abnormalities, so caution is advised. While this medication helps alleviate symptoms, it is not a treatment for the underlying cause, so this should be kept in mind. When used for inflammation accompanied by skin infections, appropriate antibacterial or antifungal medications should be used in conjunction, and the condition should be monitored closely. When used for chronic conditions such as degenerative arthritis, other treatment methods should also be considered, and the patient's condition and the occurrence of side effects should be carefully monitored. Particularly during the last three months of pregnancy, this medication should not be used as it may cause delayed childbirth, bleeding, or problems in the lungs and kidneys of the newborn. In the early stages of pregnancy, although animal studies have not shown specific issues in the fetus, there is not enough human research, so caution should be exercised. Additionally, as the components of this medication may be excreted in breast milk, it is safer for nursing women to avoid its use. Safety for premature infants, newborns, infants, and children has not been established, so it is preferable not to use it in this age group. For elderly patients, side effects may occur more easily, so it should be used cautiously at the minimum necessary dosage. This medication should not be applied to skin with wounds, infections, bleeding disorders, eczema, burns, or areas around the eyes and mucous membranes, and it is advisable not to use it with sealed dressings. When the skin is damaged, there may be temporary irritation, so caution is needed during use.
