Precautions

This medication should not be used in women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and in nursing women. It should not be administered to patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, mechanical obstruction, or perforation as it may stimulate gastrointestinal motility and pose risks. Caution should be exercised in patients with specific tumors, such as pheochromocytoma, as this medication may induce hypertension. Patients with allergies or intolerances to this medication should avoid its use. This medication should not be administered to patients in the manic phase of bipolar disorder as it may exacerbate symptoms. Patients with malignant lesions in the mammary glands should take caution as this medication may increase prolactin secretion potentially leading to breast issues. This medication contains lactose and should not be administered to patients with lactose intolerance or related metabolic disorders. Patients with hypertension, children, and the elderly should be especially cautious when using this medication. In particular, children may easily develop extrapyramidal symptoms, so overdose should be avoided, and the elderly may need dosage adjustment due to impaired kidney function and the associated risk of side effects. This medication can affect the endocrine system, leading to symptoms such as amenorrhea, excessive milk secretion, and gynecomastia, thus should be discontinued immediately if abnormal symptoms occur. Rarely, extrapyramidal symptoms such as tremors, abnormal tongue movements, and restlessness may occur, and medication should be halted if these symptoms arise. Long-term use may lead to persistent involuntary movements, requiring caution. Gastrointestinal side effects such as dry mouth, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation may occur. Cardiac side effects such as hypertension and arrhythmia may require monitoring. Rarely, severe neuroleptic malignant syndrome may occur, and immediate discontinuation and emergency treatment are necessary if symptoms such as high fever, muscle rigidity, or altered consciousness arise. During the course of taking this medication, it is advisable to avoid activities requiring concentration, such as driving or operating machinery. Caution is also needed when used in combination with other medications, as unexpected side effects may occur, especially when used with anticholinergics, analgesics, digitalis preparations, or other benzamide medications. Alcohol should also be avoided. When used with medications affecting the heart, there may be an increased risk of arrhythmia, thus careful observation is required. Pregnant or nursing women should not use this medication as it may pose risks to the fetus or newborn. The elderly should be cautious as the medication may remain in the body longer due to impaired kidney function, and dosage and administration intervals should be adjusted to monitor for side effects. This medication has an antiemetic effect, which may mask vomiting symptoms from other causes, requiring careful observation of symptom onset. Animal studies have reported risks of reproductive function decline and tumor occurrence, thus caution is necessary for long-term use.
