This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It lowers the risks of myocardial infarction, stroke, and vascular surgeries, and reduces the hospitalization risk due to chronic stable angina and congestive heart failure. It is also used to decrease total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, and triglyceride levels while increasing HDL cholesterol levels in patients with hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia. It may also be prescribed as an adjunct to dietary changes in children with persistent hypercholesterolemia. Through these effects, it is used to improve cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of disease occurrence.
