Summary

Main use
Reduction of the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke, and improvement of hyperlipidemia
Who takes it
Adults · Children
Adult dose
For hyperlipidemia, the recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily as atorvastatin, and in patients who require further LDL cholesterol reduction, it may be initiated at 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. This medication may be administered in a dose range of 10 to 80 mg once daily, and the initial and maintenance doses should be individualized based on treatment goals and patient characteristics. Lipid levels should be analyzed within 2 to 4 weeks after initiation of treatment and/or dose adjustment, and dosages should be adjusted accordingly. The goal of therapy is to reduce LDL cholesterol levels; therefore, it is recommended to use LDL cholesterol levels for evaluating treatment response upon initiation and during treatment. However, if LDL cholesterol levels cannot be monitored, total cholesterol levels may be used for monitoring treatment response. In patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the dosing regimen is 10 to 80 mg once daily, administered in conjunction with other lipid-lowering therapies (e.g., LDL apheresis), or if these therapies are not available, atorvastatin is given alone.
Child dose
For pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (ages 10 to 17), the recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily, and the recommended maximum dose is 20 mg once daily. The dosage may be adjusted appropriately based on treatment goals.

This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It reduces the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with multiple risk factors for coronary heart disease and in patients with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, for adults with existing coronary heart disease, it has been shown to decrease the risk of non-fatal and fatal myocardial infarction, stroke, revascularization procedures, hospitalizations due to congestive heart failure, and angina. For patients with hyperlipidemia, this medication is used to lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo-B, and triglyceride levels, and to raise HDL cholesterol levels. It is particularly effective in controlling cholesterol levels in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia or in pediatric patients when used alongside dietary management. This medication is used to reduce and improve the risks associated with cardiovascular diseases and hyperlipidemia.

How to take

Adult dose

For hyperlipidemia, the recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily as atorvastatin, and in patients who require further LDL cholesterol reduction, it may be initiated at 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. Precautions

This medication may cause unusual symptoms in the muscles; therefore, in case of severe muscle pain or weakness, or a significant increase in creatine kinase levels, it should be stopped immediately and a doctor consulted. Patients with liver function issues or liver disease should exercise caution, as taking this medication may worsen liver function, and regular liver function tests are necessary. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as breastfeeding women, should not take this medication and should use appropriate contraceptive methods during treatment. This medication may have increased or decreased blood concentration when taken with certain drugs; therefore, patients should inform their doctor or pharmacist if they are taking other medications. Elderly patients or those with impaired kidney function should be monitored closely when using this medication due to the increased risk of muscle-related adverse reactions. If symptoms such as muscle pain, fatigue, or fever occur during treatment, medical personnel should be informed immediately and necessary tests should be conducted. When storing this medication, keep it out of reach of children and store it in its original container to prevent misuse or deterioration of quality.
