Sildenafil, the recommended dose of 25 to 50 mg is taken orally about 1 hour prior to sexual activity, once daily. Depending on the situation, it can be taken between 4 hours and 30 minutes before sexual activity. The dosage can be adjusted according to efficacy and tolerance.

Precautions

This medication can dangerously lower blood pressure when taken with nitrate preparations or NO donors, so it is essential to check if such medications are being used before beginning this treatment. Patients with heart or vascular problems should have a thorough cardiovascular examination before taking this medication, and it is advisable not to use it if there are severe cardiac conditions. Since sexual activity itself can put a strain on the heart, patients with unstable cardiovascular conditions should not use this medication. This medication can temporarily lower blood pressure due to vasodilation, and thus patients with low blood pressure or heart diseases must use it with caution. Patients who recently experienced arrhythmias, heart failure, unstable angina, or those with low blood pressure or poorly controlled hypertension, and those with retinitis pigmentosa, should avoid this medication. If an erection lasts more than 4 hours, medical attention should be sought immediately as failure to treat it may result in permanent damage. Patients with specific valvular heart disease or reduced blood pressure regulation may be more sensitive to the vasodilatory effects of this medication. Co-administration with certain antiviral medications may significantly increase the serum concentration of this medication, so patients currently taking such medications should adjust the dosage accordingly. This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, so patients with certain genetic disorders such as phenylketonuria should not take it. Patients who are allergic to this medication, regularly take nitrate drugs, cannot engage in sexual activity due to cardiovascular diseases, have severe liver dysfunction, are children under 18 or women should not take this medication. Patients at risk for penile deformities, blood disorders, bleeding tendencies, or peptic ulcers, elderly patients, those with severe kidney or liver dysfunction, and patients taking CYP3A4 inhibitors should use this medication cautiously. While taking this medication, side effects such as headaches, flushing, indigestion, dizziness, visual disturbances, diarrhea, rash, nausea, vomiting, muscle pain, limb pain, itching, skin dryness, eye dryness, eye pain, photophobia, eye congestion, abnormal sensations in the eyes, eyelid swelling, facial flushing, swelling, hematuria, chest pain, lethargy, fatigue, sweating, itching, joint pain, anxiety, insomnia, drowsiness, and memory issues may occur; if severe symptoms arise, consult a doctor. Visual disturbances or dizziness may occur while driving or operating machinery, hence caution is necessary. This medication can lower blood pressure; therefore, when used in combination with other antihypertensive medications, it must be taken according to medical advice, as symptoms of hypotension may occur when taken with alpha-blockers. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not use this medication, and children and adolescents cannot take it. In the case of overdose, symptoms may worsen, so the recommended dosage must be adhered to, and immediate medical attention is required for overdose. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
