This medication is used when blood pressure control is difficult with monotherapy of telmisartan in patients with essential hypertension. Adding this medication helps effectively lower blood pressure and manage health.

How to take

Adult dose

For patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by monotherapy with telmisartan, take one dose daily with or without food. Telmisartan/Hydrochlorothiazide combination in 40/12.5 mg, 80/12.5 mg, and 80/25 mg doses can be administered depending on the level of blood pressure control. No dose adjustment is required in patients with kidney impairment or liver impairment, but it should not be administered to patients with severe kidney or liver dysfunction.

Child dose

Safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children under the age of 18.

Precautions

This medication can pose serious risks to the fetus or newborn, thus it should not be used during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters. Treatment should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed, and other safe alternatives should be considered. Patients allergic to any of the ingredients or excipients contained in this medication should not take it. Moreover, patients allergic to sulfonamide drugs, pregnant or nursing individuals, patients with cholestasis or biliary obstruction, and those with severe liver or kidney dysfunction should also avoid this medication. Elderly patients, those with high potassium levels, or liver impairment, and patients with heart valve disease or cardiovascular disease should use this medication with caution. Hydrochlorothiazide may cause sensitivity to sunlight, increasing the risk of skin cancer; therefore, ultraviolet exposure should be limited and skin conditions monitored periodically during treatment. This medication lowers blood pressure, which may cause dizziness, fainting, drowsiness, and caution is required when driving or operating machinery. This medication may interact with other drugs; especially when combined with medications affecting potassium levels, lithium, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or other antihypertensive drugs, consultation with health care professionals and regular blood tests are required. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, electrolyte imbalance, and dehydration may occur; immediate contact with a medical institution for appropriate treatment is necessary. It is advisable not to use this medication in children under 18 years of age, as safety and efficacy have not been established.
