Treatment of essential hypertension and reduction of cardiovascular disease risk
This medication is used to control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. It also helps reduce the risk of mortality due to myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiovascular diseases in high-risk patients over 55 years of age who cannot use angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. This drug protects cardiovascular health in individuals with underlying conditions such as coronary artery disease, peripheral arterial disease, stroke, or diabetes, and is effective in lowering overall cardiovascular disease risk. Therefore, it is used not only for hypertension but also for reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
Essential Hypertension: Telmisartan at a dose of 40 mg orally once daily with water, regardless of meals. Depending on the patient, 20 mg once daily may also be effective. If necessary, the dose may be increased to 80 mg once daily, but dosage increases will show the maximum blood pressure-lowering effect between 4 and 8 weeks after the start of treatment. Reduction of Cardiovascular Disease Risk: 80 mg once daily.
