Effectiveness in reducing the risk of essential hypertension and cardiovascular diseases
This medication is primarily used in patients with essential hypertension. It also helps reduce the risk of death and incidence of myocardial infarction and stroke caused by cardiovascular diseases in high-risk groups, such as those with coronary artery disease, stroke, and peripheral arterial disease. It can be given to patients who have difficulty taking angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, allowing for a safe expectation of therapeutic effects. Through these benefits, it contributes to blood pressure control and improvement of cardiovascular health.
1. Essential Hypertension Take Telmisartan 40 mg once daily with water, regardless of meals. Depending on the patient, 20 mg once daily may also be effective. If necessary, the dose may be increased up to 80 mg once daily, and dose increases reach maximum blood pressure-lowering effects 4 to 8 weeks after starting treatment. 2. Reduction of Cardiovascular Disease Risk For this purpose, 80 mg of this medication is recommended to be taken orally with water once daily, regardless of meals. The risk reduction effect on morbidity and mortality due to cardiovascular diseases at doses below 80 mg is not known. When starting treatment with this medication for cardiovascular disease risk reduction, monitoring of blood pressure is recommended, and proper adjustment of antihypertensive medications may be required.
