Summary

Main use
Reduction of the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke, improvement of hyperlipidemia
Who takes it
Adults · Children
Adult dose
Atorvastatin is given once daily at a dose of 10 mg regardless of meal timing, and if a greater reduction in LDL cholesterol is required, it can be initiated at 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. The dosing should be individualized within a range of 10-80 mg once daily, with lipid levels being analyzed and adjusted at intervals of 2 to 4 weeks. For patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the daily dose should be 10 mg to avoid possible overdosing.
Child dose
The recommended initial dose for pediatric patients (10–17 years) with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia is 10 mg once daily, and the maximum dose is 20 mg once daily. The dose should be adjusted appropriately at intervals of 4 weeks or more.

This medication is used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It lowers the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with multiple risk factors for coronary heart disease or in patients with type 2 diabetes, and reduces the incidence of vascular procedures and angina. In adults with existing heart disease, it reduces the risk of hospitalization for complications such as myocardial infarction, stroke, angina, and congestive heart failure. It also helps lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo-B, and triglyceride levels, while increasing HDL cholesterol levels in patients with hyperlipidemia. It can be used as an adjunct to diet in pediatric patients with familial hypercholesterolemia. Overall, this medication is used to improve risk factors for cardiovascular disease and dyslipidemia.
